Talos SFD-1000-N2K Motion Lightning Detector is a compact, low-power marine sensor that brings advanced storm awareness to your vessel. With a 25 NM detection range and plug-and-play NMEA 2000 connectivity, it delivers timely alerts straight to your boat’s multifunction displays (MFDs) for safer sailing and cruising.
Key benefits
-
NMEA 2000 compliant & plug-and-play — quick installation and seamless integration with your vessel’s digital network.
-
Up to 25 NM detection range — know when lightning activity is nearby and track approaching or departing storm fronts.
-
Three alert distances — 25 NM, 10 NM, and 5 NM to tailor warnings to your needs.
-
Three alert messages indicate the distance to the storm front, helping you gauge risk and time to react.
-
All-clear after 30 minutes with no lightning strikes, reducing unnecessary alarms.
-
Audible and visual alerts keep you informed even in noisy or bright environments.
-
IP-67 waterproof & rugged design for reliable marine use in harsh conditions.
-
Low power consumption — listening mode about 400 µA; detecting mode ~4.5 mA; powered by 6–30 VDC.
-
OEM-friendly & compact — designed for customized boat builds and integration into existing systems with a patent-pending form factor.
-
Direct display on MFDs — alerts appear where you already monitor vitals, elevating situational awareness.
How it works
The Talos SFD-1000-N2K detects lightning activity in the area and computes its distance. It transmits alerts over the digital NMEA 2000 network, so your boat’s MFDs display the current storm proximity. With audible and visual cues, you gain immediate awareness of potentially life-threatening and equipment-damaging lightning, giving you precious time to seek safety.
